What I Do
I help clients solve complex business and commercial disputes. I have tried numerous cases in federal and state courts, before arbitration panels and before regulators, while providing strategic advice and practical solutions. I am available to act as local counsel in Colorado . I am also a trained mediator and given my broad experience am uniquely suited to act as a neutral in business disputes.
Relationships Matter
I work closely with the client to assess the problem and provide a plan that could involve negotiations, litigation or even government affairs action. I develop a fee structure appropriate to the complexity and difficulty of the situation and am willing to offer alternative fee arrangements in appropriate circumstances. Once the plan is approved by the client, I continue to work closely with them, communicating regularly, reviewing progress and providing my frank assessment of the likely outcome. I have a particular interest in the relationship between attorneys and clients and I have written a paper about that relationship with a clinical psychologist. (Link provided on News Page).
Customized Recommendations
I am a pragmatist who understands that predetermined approaches rarely fit with the realities that clients face.
Lean and Flexible
By keeping my overhead low, I am able to offer my experience and professional services to a wider group of clients. Through my numerous contacts with other attorneys throughout Colorado and the US and using my leadership skills, having led both trial teams and large litigation and government affairs departments, I am able to recruit additional talent and expertise to create an ad hoc team to handle even the most complex problems, without the overhead of a large firm.
What Are My Values?
In 2017 I realized a growing passion for volunteer and pro bono work, with a renewed understanding of my responsibility to use my talent and experience for social justice. I have been working closely with the American Friends Service Committee on Immigration issues and am providing pro bono representation to immigrants through the Rocky Mountain Immigrant Advocacy Network. In addition to social justice, I am committed to literacy and writing and therefore serve on the Board of The Lighthouse Writers Workshop. My goal is to commit 25% of my professional time to volunteer and pro bono activities.
What Are My Hobbies?
I am a photographer and a writer. I'm a member of a playwriting group and a writing salon. I'm a reader and maintain a large personal library. I'm committed to physical fitness. I love music, particularly jazz. I work hard and I play hard. See some of my photographs by clicking the Instagram button below.
